The full name of NADH is β-nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, also known as reduced coenzyme I. NADH is mainly involved in substance and energy metabolism in cells, produced in glycolysis and cellular respiration in the citric acid cycle, and as a carrier and electron donor, NADH transfer energy to supply ATP synthesis through the process of oxidative phosphorylation on the inner membrane of mitochondria. Therefore, NADH is also known as mitochondrial hormone, which exists in mitochondria of all animal and plant cells. NADH plays an important role in maintaining cell growth, differentiation, and energy metabolism, as well as in cytoprotection.
